Educational Exhibition on the 2026 Total Solar Eclipse Opens at Garðskagi Heritage Museum

In preparation for the total solar eclipse on 12 August 2026, an educational exhibition has opened at the Garðskagi Heritage Museum, offering visitors the opportunity to learn more about this extraordinary natural phenomenon ahead of the historic event.

Learn about one of nature's rarest spectacles

The exhibition has been created in collaboration with Sævar Helgi Bragason who provided the educational content for ten information and exhibition panels. The displays explain how a total solar eclipse occurs, why it is such a rare event, how to observe it safely, and what visitors can expect during the eclipse.

The exhibition is presented in both Icelandic and English, making it accessible to both local residents and international visitors. Its production was supported by the Suðurnesjabær Cultural Fund and the Suðurnes Regional Development Fund.

Visitors can also purchase Sævar Helgi's book, Solar Eclipses – Scientific Literacy, at the museum, along with official Suðurnesjabær solar eclipse glasses.

The Garðskagi Heritage Museum is open daily from 10:00 to 17:00. Admission to both the museum and the educational exhibition is free of charge, and everyone is welcome to visit and learn more about the upcoming total solar eclipse.
