Car Rentals

There are plenty of car rentals throughout the country.

Some are part of an international chain and others are privately owned. Prices and quality may vary so it’s important to examine carefully all the possibilities.

Before driving it is important to check both weather and road conditions. Websites for road condition is www.road.is and for the weather en.vedur.is.  

Public Transportation

Three bus systems are operating in the Reykjanes region. 

  1. ses within the municipality of Reykjanesbær (R1-R3-R4). See local bus timetables here. Note: the buses do not run on Sundays and have limited times on Saturdays. 
  2. Buses between the towns of Reykjanes region: Reykjanesbær - Garður - Sandgerði - Vogar and Grindavík (buses no. 87, 88 and 89). See timetables here.

Domestic flights

The closest domestic airport to Reykjanes peninsula is Reykjavík Domestic Airport. It is only 40 min drive from Keflavík International Airport, which is located in the heart of the peninsula to the domestic airport. 

Two airlines offer domestic flights from Reykjavík, Air Iceland Connect and Eagle Air Iceland. Flights can be booked through their websites or via telephone.

Taxi

Most of the more populated areas of Iceland have taxis.

They all have meters, and charge a starting fee in addition to charging by the minute.

Bicycle Rentals

Short and long term bicycle rentals and guided bicycle tours.

Flights to Iceland can be booked with any of the Icelandic international airlines and with several foreign airlines that fly to Iceland.
