Green Footprint: New Erasmus+ project on responsible travel behaviour launched in Lanzarote
The project officially kicked off with its first partner meeting on 9–10 March in Lanzarote, Spain. Led by Visit Reykjanes, Green Footprint brings together partners from Galileo (Italy), Lanzarote and Chinijo Islands UNESCO Global Geopark (Spain), and GeoCamp Iceland.
Running until July 2027, the project aims to support young travellers, educators, and travel organisers in better understanding their impact on nature and local communities, while encouraging more sustainable and responsible behaviour. This is particularly important in destinations like Reykjanes, where fragile nature and unique geological landscapes require careful consideration.
During the meeting in Lanzarote, partners aligned on the project’s vision and explored key challenges in tourism, including environmental pressure on sensitive areas, lack of awareness among visitors, and the influence of social media on travel behaviour .
A key outcome of the meeting is the development of simple and engaging educational content – particularly short videos – designed to guide travellers towards better choices. The project will also produce a practical guide for educators and a digital “Regenerative Map” connecting youth groups with local initiatives and opportunities for participation.
The next project meeting will take place in Italy in autumn 2026, followed by a final meeting in Iceland in 2027.
