REGENERATE Selected to Represent Iceland at European Parliament Exhibition
The REGENERATE project has been selected as Iceland’s representative best practice at a European-level exhibition on regenerative tourism, taking place at the European Parliament in Brussels in late January 2026.
The exhibition, titled “Tourism for Europe, Europe for Tourism”, is organised by the European Travel Commission (ETC), which represents National Tourism Organisations across Europe. Its aim is to shift the narrative around tourism by showcasing concrete examples of how tourism can be a positive force—supporting communities, restoring nature, and strengthening local economies.
Only 35 projects from across Europe have been selected for the exhibition, with one best practice chosen from each country. REGENERATE was selected to represent Iceland for its work in advancing regenerative tourism models that actively give back to destinations and communities. The project will be showcased both physically at the European Parliament from 26–29 January 2026 and later on a dedicated European website highlighting regenerative tourism best practices.
REGENERATE is a transnational cooperation project led by Visit Reykjanes, in partnership with organisations in Finland, Sweden, and Ireland. The project focuses on strengthening regional capacity to develop tourism in ways that restore natural environments, empower local communities, and build long-term resilience in destinations—particularly in sensitive and rapidly changing regions.
Being selected as Iceland’s regenerative tourism best practice is a strong recognition of the work carried out in the Reykjanes region and across the project partnership. It highlights how tourism in Iceland is evolving beyond growth alone, towards approaches that emphasise responsibility, collaboration, and positive impact.
As part of the exhibition preparations, REGENERATE will contribute a project description, visual material from Iceland, and a short testimonial video highlighting the importance of tourism for regional development and the lessons learned through the project.
Further information about the exhibition and the online showcase will be shared in the coming weeks.
