The Total Solar Eclipse at Hvalsnes

today

Lately, many have asked us at Gola what our plans are for the total solar eclipse. The answer is: It will be a cozy and fun time together.

As you surely know, Hvalsnes is one of the locations in the country where the total eclipse lasts the longest. Hvalsnes is open to everyone who wishes to visit on this day and enjoy this magnificent natural wonder in the company of others.

Groups of international tourists will be at Gola that day and have the house to themselves. However, the Gola team will provide refreshments available for purchase in tents on the Hvalsnes meadow—such as pasta salad, soup, hot dogs, cakes, chocolate, hot cocoa, and coffee.

Svavar Knútur will perform three concerts that day at Hvalsnes Church.

Guided tours of the site will be available in both English and Icelandic.

Facility fee: 2,000 ISK (free for children aged 17 and under).

Concert: 3,500 ISK.

Guided tour: 1,000 ISK (free for children aged 17 and under).

Of course, you can also head down to the shore or play on the meadows.

We advise everyone planning to visit to arrive early and come well-equipped for the outdoors; it is also a good idea to bring a blanket to sit on in the meadow. Traffic on the road to us—from Hafnir to Sandgerði—will be one-way (see map).

We look forward to seeing you and sharing this moment as the earth holds its breath.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Best regards,

The Golu Team
