Colourful Parade Celebrates Nature, Folklore and the Total Solar Eclipse

On the eve of the total solar eclipse, the Landscape Myth Parade will take place in Reykjanesbær, inviting local residents and visitors to participate in a unique celebration that brings together visual art, folklore, nature, and community creativity.
The parade is the culminating event of the Landscape Myth community art project, developed over the past several weeks by Community for All (Samfélag fyrir öll). Participants of all ages and backgrounds have explored Icelandic folklore, the biodiversity of the Suðurnes region, and myths connected to solar eclipses. Throughout the project, they have designed and created costumes, masks, and symbolic artworks using natural and recycled materials.
During the parade, participants will wear their own creations, inspired by Iceland's volcanic landscapes, native plants, birdlife, marine ecosystems, and mythical beings. Accompanied by live music, performances, and interactive encounters, the streets of Reykjanesbær will be transformed into a vibrant celebration of the region's natural and cultural heritage.

We are especially delighted to celebrate this remarkable astronomical event with the community through a creative and accessible experience," says a representative of Community for All.
Everyone is welcome to participate - whether by joining the parade or by enjoying the performances along the route.
As part of the event, free solar eclipse glasses will be distributed so that visitors can safely observe the total solar eclipse the following day. After the eclipse, the glasses will be collected and sent to a community where the next total solar eclipse will be visible, allowing them to be reused.
