The Volcanic Way receives grant for continued development and promotion

The Volcanic Way has received a grant from the Icelandic government’s Regional Development Plan to support its continued development, communication and marketing. The project is a collaboration between Visit Reykjanes and Visit South Iceland and plays an important role in strengthening the region as a destination shaped by volcanic forces.

The Volcanic Way has been awarded a grant of ISK 4.5 million to support its ongoing development and promotion. The funding will be used to strengthen the project’s visibility, develop communication tools and support tourism stakeholders and municipalities in delivering engaging and informative visitor experiences.

The Volcanic Way is a collaborative project between Visit Reykjanes and Visit South Iceland, aimed at sharing knowledge about volcanic activity and its impact on landscapes and local communities. The route connects destinations shaped by volcanic forces and offers visitors the opportunity to experience unique geological environments while gaining a deeper understanding of the region’s natural history.

Developed in close cooperation with local communities and tourism stakeholders, the project contributes to sustainable destination development and supports value creation within the tourism sector. Through coordinated communication and strategic development, The Volcanic Way strengthens Reykjanes as a distinctive destination where visitors can experience the powerful forces of nature and the stories of the communities shaped by them.

The grant is part of a national allocation under Iceland’s Regional Development Plan, which aims to support regional growth, innovation and long-term resilience across the country.
