Camerarctica holds its annual candlelight concerts in churches just before Christmas.
The group has been playing music by Mozart for thirty-three years and many consider it essential to come out of the midst of the Christmas rush into the silence and candlelight of the twilight.
The group this time consists of Ármann Helgason, clarinetist, Hildigunnur Halldórsdóttir and Bryndís Pálsdóttir, violinists, Svava Bernharðsdóttir, viola player, Sigurður Halldórsson, cellist and guest is Gillian Haworth, oboe player.
The program includes three magnificent chamber works by Mozart, namely the Quartet for Oboe and Strings in F Major, Kv. 370, the Quartet for Strings in C Major, Kv. 465 and the Quartet for Clarinet and Strings in E-flat Major, Kv. 380.
The concert traditionally ends with Camerarctica playing the Christmas carol, “Today is Joy in Sorrowful Hearts” by Mozart.
The concert is an hour long and is lit only by candlelight. Admission is ISK 3,500 and free for children. Tickets are available at the entrance.
After the concert, concertgoers are invited to enjoy cocoa and gingerbread cookies at Kaffi Gola.
The concert is supported by the Suðurnes Development Fund.
