Nina Simone was an absolutely remarkable performer who greatly influenced many of the musicians, and Birta Rós therefore thought it was only fitting to honor her memory with a concert. Nina may not have written all of her biggest hits, but she performed them with such brilliance that she might as well have. Her voice was full of emotion, her piano playing dreamy, the arrangements captivating, and the music flowed freely from her creativity. Because of this, choosing Birta’s accompanying musicians was no easy task, and each role was filled by the perfect person: Steingrímur Karl Teague takes on Nina’s piano side, Birgir Steinn plays bass with great insight, and Þorvaldur Halldórsson plays the drums with his well-known mastery. And now, dear music lovers, it’s your turn to enjoy.
