The Star of Love Above Hraundrangar and Wagner’s Evening Star
In the very same year that Iceland’s beloved national poet Jónas Hallgrímsson wrote his poem about the “Star of Love Above Hraundrangar,” Richard Wagner composed an operatic aria dedicated to the “Evening Star” further south in Europe. Could it have been the same twinkling star that inspired them both?
This magnificent musical programme takes audiences on a journey through the history of opera, from the grand courts of Italy to the shores of Iceland.
Singers from the Opera will perform some of the most beautiful gems in operatic history, while actors from the National Theatre of Iceland guide audiences through the fascinating story of opera. Combining captivating performances, fascinating insights and entertainment, this production brings the world of opera to life in an engaging and accessible way.
