Today's update from Reykjanes peninsula

There is no volcanic activity at the current time. Seismic activity in the peninsula has been developing rapidly and an Emergency/Distress Phase is still activated. The seismic activity is located in the southern part of the Reykjanes peninsula. Earthquakes may become bigger than those that have already occurred, and this sequence of events could lead to an eruption. Scientists are closely monitoring the progress and any updates regarding that can be found on the Icelandic MET office website.

The seismic activity has been moving around in the surrounding area of Grindavik for some time. For that reason and the safety of the residents, an Emergency/Distress Phase was activated, the town has been evacuated and roads leading into the town closed for traffic.

All sites on the northern part of the Reykjanes peninsula are open and east of Kleifarvatn.
