Volcanic Wisdom

In March 2021, the eruption of Mt. Fagradalsfjall began after over a year of increased seismic activity. It lasted for six months, attracting many visitors before ending in December of that year. But just when everyone thought it was over, the volcano erupted again in August 2022, only 1 km north of the previous site. Periods of rifting and volcanism usually occur every 800-1000 years on the Reykjanes Peninsula.
